Dhangethi is a small inhabited island in the southern reaches of Alif Dhaal Atoll, well known for being one of the closest local islands to the whale shark and manta ray cleaning stations of South Ari. The reef begins just metres from the sandy shoreline, making Dhangethi a favourite stop for snorkellers, dive groups and travellers looking for unspoilt Maldivian village life.
Around the island you'll find a clean Bikini Beach, family-run guesthouses, small cafés serving fresh tuna curry and roshi, and a handful of dive centres that run daily whale shark trips between August and November. It's the kind of place where you arrive by boat, drop your bags, and step straight onto the reef.
